![]() ![]() ![]() Can you please provide advice on how to combine multiple categorical variables like this into one single categorical variable? Ideally with suggestions on how to use the menus, but I think I could decode a script if that's how you wanted to suggest it. I'd like to make this as one variable, so that I can make a cross table that splits some of my other variables by race/ethnicity. Combining several Likert items from a Likert scale into one variable duplicate Ask Question Asked 8 years, 2 months ago Active 8 years, 2 months ago Viewed 15k times. What I want to do is create a frequency distribution that includes all of the races together, instead of 6 different tables. Theoretically, a person could identify with multiple races, for sure with one race and and the hispanic ethnicity. How do I create a new variable with all of those values in one column Edit - Some additional information: Im running SPSS 24 on a mac. Since participants were only in one condition, they only have values in one of the columns. My data (about 300,000 lines) has 6 variables for race/ethnicity (American Indian, Hawaiian, Black, White, Hispanic), each with codes 1=identifies 0=doesn't identify and 9 = did not self-identify. I have some data that has values from each experimental condition in separate columns. I've been searching on Google for about an hour and must not be using the right search strategies.
